Hi folks,
I had to separate the 'Monarch Butterfly Tagging' page in to single years as the page had become too large. It was starting to timeout and not save data as it was being entered. Please find the 4 new links in the 'Pages' section in the right-hand column.

August 24-2017
Hi everyone,
A nice day with a good variety of birds! Hugh, Walter, Sheldon, Berle, Ron and a few others were there and the following is what they saw:
Osprey - 2
Sharp-shinned hawk - 1 (our 27,000th all-time!)
Cooper's hawk - 1
American Kestrel - 1
Broad-winged hawk - 2
Red-tailed hawk - 1
And the biggest news: Our first bald eagles of the season!
2 juveniles at 11:35
1 juvenile, 1 adult at 11:50
Local raptors included a group of 8 Turkey Vultures and 2 Red-tailed Hawks.
Also seen migrating was a common nighthawk, common loon, and a great blue heron. An Olive-sided Flycatcher was observed perched on a dead branch. Thanks go out to Ron P for spotting the bird and identifying it. Ron noted the white tufts on the sides of the rump while the bird was in a more relaxed position on the branch.

Aug 24th - NW Wind Day!
It's still a little early in the season but today we may see an increase in the number of raptors flying over Rosetta. The Weather Network is predicting light but gusting NW wind for the day. We'll see what happens.

Another Day, Another Butterfly!
I didn't do a lot of searching today but I did manage to find another new (#26) butterfly for our Fall List - a beautiful fresh male Pipevine Swallowtail. 'Fresh' means that it was in pristine condition and likely just emerged within the last couple of days.

Also seen today was this gorgeous creature...
Hummingbird Clearwing moth (Walter)
Migrating Dragonflies are starting to show in the sky and on the flowers as well...
See you at the park!

Enjoying the Eclipse
Here's our friend Leon (92 years young!) enjoying yesterday's solar eclipse with glasses he received from a friend who is an astronomer. Leon sat and watched for 2 hours as the big event unfolded. I don't think the sighting of a rare butterfly would've got his attention whatsoever.

Shot at 2:22pm near the height of the eclipse with my camera
at full zoom and through a piece of welder's glass that
Arvo brought to the park. A little photo editing didn't hurt!
