Many of today's birds were either way up or way out...sometimes that happens! It's part of what makes hawk watching so much fun...the searching! Sep 10th - Three Daves, No Eagles!
It was a gorgeous early September day at the park. Not too hot, no humidity, whispy clouds all day up high, light SE winds off the lake, and a enough birds to keep most people interested. Any birds that did come our way, came right overhead...although high up!

I heard mention of a few brave souls heading to Rosetta today despite all the heat and humidity...I was one of them tho I didn't last long, only about an hour! While there with Peter and Terry we saw 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks fly over the park.
Sure enough the winds have changed for Wednesday...

Sep 7th - Sharpie, Sharpie, Kestrel, Sharpie!
Another good day of raptor migration over Rosetta! Today, the bird of the day was the Sharp-shinned Hawk, also referred to as a 'Sharpie' and/or 'Shin' at most hawk watches. A few times today we had as many as 7 passing overhead at one time. Many came in pairs and were interacting with one another along the way. Sometimes the interactions were between Sharpies and American Kestrels. The flight today for most birds was directly overhead and just slightly higher than the tree tops. This provided everyone gathered some fabulous views and great photo ops.

Sep 6th - FINALLY!!!!!
Today we finally had our first real good look at fall raptor migration along the Scarborough Bluffs. We more than doubled our count for the season! For the better part of the day we observed Sharp-shinned Hawks and American Kestrels flying overhead in decent numbers. Today's group of hawk watchers did a fantastic job finding and identifying everything that flew our way. Thankyou everyone!
